Breeding Cats...
We breed cats as a hobby. We strive with every litter to produce kittens worthy for exhibition on the show bench. Some do end up as 'pet quality' kittens, a term used to identify those kittens not quite up to the standard it takes for a truly good show cat. In producing these kittens, some believe that we and others like us are adding to the 'overpopulation' crisis. Some believe we should not produce any kittens.
I take cat breeding very seriously. Many breeders of companions animals feel the same. I choose to bring kittens into this world so I make certain they receive plenty of love, attention, quality Vet care, vaccinations against the most likely diseases, microchips to help identify them should they end up in rescue or a shelter and I try my damnedest to find a wonderful pet home where they will be loved and cherished as a member of their adoptive family.
They will be well cared for.
Almost all animals are left at shelters because of life-style changes, moves or behavior problems. ALL of these reasons are simply abandonment of responsibility. Abandonment is a serious issue that is always overlooked. Overpopulation is a word that is often over used. These are issues we all need to deal with using intelligence, compassion and reason.
Pedigreed cats make up a tiny fraction of the total feline population in the USA and an even smaller percentage of pets in shelters.
Most felines in shelters are random bred domestic cats and those numbers would be lessened with free or low-cost spay and neuters, education and a change in thinking about just what we need to do to prevent the numbers of killings of shelter pets. Most of all, we need to take personal responsibility to care for our pets. We need to examine our lives before we adopt a pet. Make certain our commitment is not fleeting. Realize that this kitten will live for a long time, depending on us to feed it, vet it and most of all love it for the duration of it's life. Like having children, this is a long-term commitment. It is one that should not be taken lightly nor rushed.
Always spay & neuter your pets.
We all need to practice personal responsibility. People who get rid of cats because they are 'moving' are not responsible. People who euthanize the cat when it starts getting 'too old' are not responsible. People who do not spay/neuter their pets and then refuse accept the consequences of that decision are not responsible. Responsibility is the one 'value' our society forgets most often and it is lacking in almost everything we do.
Responsibility needs to be taught to our children........
......and reinforced by our actions!
I am not trying to justify my reasons for breeding cats. I should not have to do that any more than someone else need justify having children. It is what I choose to do. My hobby. It does not harm anyone else nor does it infringe on any other persons rights. I do it for my own enjoyment and while I do produce more kittens than I need for the show bench, I do my best to make certain those kittens are cared for and never abandoned.
It is something I will fight for the right to continue.
Not everyone wants a pedigreed kitten but those of us who choose to own one, should not be denied that right because others are not as responsible as they should be nor because some groups do not believe we have the right to own them.
Trouble is brewing in the form of a political storm. It is one that takes the shape of groups claiming to help and rescue animals. They do neither.
The true intent of animal-rights groups is scary.

Politics and the Breeding of Companion Animals....
Think for a minute about how you feel about pets...did you grow up with a dog or cat? Did you have a pet bird, gerbil or maybe a horse? Do you think it is your 'right' to keep pets without any governmental interference?
Or should government tell you if and when they will let you keep a pet?
What most people do not know is that the largest 'Humane Society' in this country, the Humane Society of the USA (HSUS) is a massively funded (assets of over $113 MILLION) organization that does NOT rescue any animals, runs NO animal shelters, does not fund any spay/neuter programs and in fact, as it's new President states, is determined to eliminate domestic animals.
“We have no ethical obligation to preserve the different breeds of livestock produced through selective breeding ...One generation and out. We have no problems with the extinction of domestic animals. They are creations of human selective breeding.”
Wayne Pacelle, President HSUS
— Animal People News, 5/1/93
The HSUS, like it's even more radical compatriot P.E.T.A., is controlled by Animal-Rights activists.
Animal-Rights does NOT = Animal-Welfare
HSUS' aim, like it's President so eloquently states above, is to eliminate all domesticated animals and that includes your household pets. They want to force government to control, then take away YOUR right to own a pet, to pick YOUR diet, to enjoy YOUR vocation (that may include animals) and then destroy YOUR sport.....no animal shows, no hunting, no polo, no rodeos and no more state fairs! Anything that involves animals, other than looking at them from afar. No more zoos, no more hamburgers, no riding horseback, no leather clothing and no more family dogs or cats as pets. NO MORE PETS!
They are serious about their goals.
The HSUS is a fund-raising organization only concerned with raising money to lobby our lawmakers! Can you imagine how much good $113 MILLION dollars could actually DO to help animals during any year? They could fund shelters, offer low-cost spay/neuters, sponsor rabies/vaccination clinics, start Trap/Neuter/Release programs for feral cat colonies.....the list could go on and on.
Do NOT let them fool you into believing they are helping anyone, other than themselves and their agenda. Their 'agenda' does NOT benefit animals!
Check out: www.activistcash.com before you donate to ANY animal "rights" group! See where they spend their money! Ask legislators WHY we let them continue as TAX-FREE organizations when they do NOT use their money to do what they dishonestly lead donors into believing they do. For instance, when the HSUS asked for money to 'save' the animals affected by Katrina...and did not use that money to help. When they promised to support the dogs taken from Michael Vick's (dog fighting) federal cruelty case, again they did not do as promised.
The great State of California is now at war to ban the breeding of dogs and cats. AB1634 (pushed by the HSUS and PETA) would effectively stop ALL breeding of companion animals and would quickly bring about the demise of pedigreed companion animals in the state. The United States Senate is re-considering P.A.W.S., which would effectively eliminate hobby breeders. Breeders who raise animals underfoot, in the house, with love and care.
PAWS would do nothing to promote animal welfare, in fact, it would promote breeding farms where hundreds of animals live in crates raising litter after litter like little pet factories. Conglomerates like the Hunt Corporation would be the only ones who could afford to comply with the complexities this bill would entail.
Would you prefer your kitten raised underfoot in a home or in a crate on a farm?
The Animal-Rights activists will try to lead us into believing that *if* they can stop hobby breeding of companion animals, the stunning numbers of pets turned into shelters will also stop.
It will not!
Animals in shelters are mostly random bred cats and dogs, mixed breeds whos owners fail to have spayed or neutered. Feral cats who never have Vet care and reproduce in stunning numbers. The numbers of animals turned into shelters has fallen dramatically in the last 30 years. Pedigreed animals are a fraction of those shelter turn-ins.
A tiny fraction.
Until local governments decide that the only way to solve the 'overpopulation' problems is to educate, fund low-cost spay/neuters and to support T.N.R. programs for feral cat colonies, the 'problems' will continue.
These programs are proven to WORK while more legislation does not!
They will be in your state soon!
Animal Rights activists have now talked the Los Angeles City Council into passing mandatory spay/neuter (at 4 months old) into law. The Director of LA's animal control was behind this push, as was PETA and the HSUS. Supporters of this new requirement say they want to "eliminate pets being born until the shelters are emptied". Too bad this new legislation will do the opposite. Animal-rights activists KNOW that random bred animals make up a majority of shelter kills and they also KNOW that this measure will NOT correct those numbers. The latest numbers are out for L.A. Shelters and they are grim:
2008 first quarter 2,391 cats and dogs were euthanized. 2006 only
2,100 were euthanized. 2007 only 1,930 were euthanized.
Euthanasia rates in LA Shelters have gone up 24% since last year.
Ed Boks, the shelter's Director has already refused to implement ANY measures that are PROVEN to reduce shelter kill rates.
Ed Boks believes these animals do not deserve to live!
But does the City of Los Angeles fire Ed Boks and start moving towards a no-kill policy he claims to working toward? NO! Instead he is trying to push his AR (and anti-animal) agenda to cover the entire State of California. What is he thinking? All that will do is to increase deaths in shelters. Does he care for these animals?
AR-ists want to stop ALL breeding of pets and this is a first step in that goal.
Animal Control in Los Angeles already has one of the highest kill rates of any shelter in the country and this measure will make those numbers continue to RISE. Supporters of this type of legislation are moving their fight back to Sacramento to help pass it into a state law.
If you want to own a pet today or in the future,
you need to join the fight NOW!
Heavy handed government measures only benefit the Animal-Rights agenda!

PETA is not an animal *welfare* organization.
"An official report from People for The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), submitted nine months after a Virginia government agency's deadline, shows that the animal rights group put to death more than 97 percent of the dogs, cats, and other pets it took in for adoption in 2006. During that year, the well-known animal rights group managed to find adoptive homes for just 12 pets. The nonprofit Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF) is calling on PETA to either end its hypocritical angel-of-death program, or stop its senseless condemnation of Americans who believe it's perfectly ethical to use animals for food, clothing, and critical medical research. Go see more of PETA's activities at:
www.petakillsanimals.com
Not counting animals PETA held only temporarily in its spay-neuter program, the organization took in 3,061 "companion animals" in 2006, of which it killed 2,981. According to Virginia's Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), the average euthanasia rate for humane societies in the state was just 34.7 percent in 2006.
PETA killed 97.4 percent of the animals it took in.
"Pet lovers should be outraged," said CCF Director of Research David Martosko. "There are thousands of worthwhile animal shelters that deserve Americans' support. PETA is not one of them."

PETA activists are Radicals, and should be labeled as Terrorists.
They have funded the defense for suspects in bombing and terrorism cases. They believe have the right to break in and enter testing laboratories to 'free' the animals used for testing. They throw blood on wearers of fur coats. They accuse little children of killing animals for their hamburgers...that is TERRORISM.
It is certainly their right to hold their beliefs true but they cross the line when they choose what others should do. Testing laboratories are certainly grim places but they DO produce medical miracles. Fur coats are not my cup of tea but no-one should force others out of their choice for outerwear. Hamburgers? A vegan diet is probably an extremely healthy choice but it is not one I choose to enjoy, nor should anyone else be forced into.
Keep in mind that when your local government tries to limit breeding or ownership of companion animals, it is just the first step in removing your right to have a pet. Your other choices will soon follow.
Remember the people quoted above and never forget what their real goals are.
Voice your concerns to your Mayor, City Councilmen or County Commissioners. Do not lose your right to own and enjoy the company of your pet.
Better ideas for all government entities would be to support and fund TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) programs for feral cat colonies, offer low cost spay/neuters of pets for those who cannot afford to pay for it themselves, support programs that allow companion animal visits to rest homes and hospitals......and to realize that our lives are made richer by allowing us to keep our companion animals close.
Remind your dearest about what happens to the money they send to AR groups.
Send them to:
to read and see more. Stay informed and stay active!
Do NOT give any money to the HSUS or PETA!
*****
Money to HSUS and PETA goes towards:
-legislation to limit or eliminate pets.
-lobbying against farmers to force everyone to become vegan.
-terrorizing those who use animal products in clothing and furniture.
I have always believed that *I* could choose my diet, my clothing and my pets....Animal-Rights Activists do not agree that *I* should have that right! Remind your family of their true aims, if you love freedom and value your rights, fight back! If you enjoy the company of a pet, they will take that away.

A new book, Redemption by Nathan Winograd takes on our current shelter mentality that kills millions of adoptable pets every year. Nathan passionately argues for a No-Kill policy for all shelters, after proving such a dream could be realized, while he was Director of Operations at the SPCA in San Francisco.
Redemption is an eye-opening read.
Both the HSUS and PETA claim no-kill is their agenda but read what Nathan says about that false claim! Be careful in whom you entrust your donations. Not all do what they promise.
Buy the book. Open your eyes.
